Dance Classes at GingerFred...
Hello!
Welcome to the GingerFred website!
I'm Lou and I run GingerFred Dance Studio in Langport, Somerset. The studio offers:
°DANCE 4 FITNESS GROUP CLASSES
°SOCIAL BALLROOM (private and group lessons)
°ARGENTINE TANGO (private and group lessons)
°ADVANCED CONTEMPORARY DANCE
The studio welcomes adults aged 16+
The Dance 4 Fitness (Dancefit) classes run all through the week (from 4pm) and suit anyone (ideally with some dance experience) wanting to continue to be FITTER, STRONGER, MORE FLEXIBLE and HAVE INCREASED STAMINA.
The Social Ballroom lessons are popular with couples. These are private LESSONS mostly but there are 6 week group courses throughout the year. The styles taught: Waltz, Foxtrot & Argentine Tango.
These lessons can suit absolute beginners and are brilliant for giving you a shared dancing experience as a couple - something to learn together that is fun and physical - plus you can practice at home!
CONTEMPORARY DANCE
The Contemporary Dance Class would suit adults 16+ who have dance experience in either ballet and/or contemporary dance. The class level is intermediate to advanced and moves at a fast pace for dancers who just love to dance - the age is mixed from 17 to 57 year olds.. All with a confident dance background.
THIS CLASS DOES HAVE SPACES ALL YEAR ROUND - BUT IS NEARLY FULL SO EMAIL TO CHECK.
From time to time places come up...
If you are really keen to join this thriving dance community then get in touch below and tell us about yourself and your dancing passion!
DANCE For Fitness (DanceFit) - We have 12 of these classes during the week and all classes begin at 4pm until 7pm.
Most classes are full but from time to time a place does comes up... The description of the class is below and some of the youtube videos should also give you an idea.
We do not take absolute beginners as the classes are designed to go at a technical pace... But some classes are less intense than others!
If you are keen to join this thriving dancing community please use the GET IN TOUCH form and tell us a little bit about you and your dancing!!
MORE ABOUT DANCEFIT...
The music is the drive in this class and the tunes are EVERYTHING fabulous from the 50's, 60' up - classical, nostalgic, cinematic and funky...pitched perfectly for women in their 40's, 50's, 60's and 70's! We all know how this joyous music drives us to dance better thus get fitter. The ages are mixed but more women are in their 50's and 60's. We require no dance experience when joining the beginners course - that's my job to give you that!
If, after reading all the above you are still keen to join us (and I hope you are!) then I must stress that regular attendance is really important - if someone is missing regularly - without good reason; due to the sheer volume of people wanting to dance we will have to refund you and give your slot to a waiting customer.
I hate to be so clear but we are a studio of 'keen bean' dancers and due to the restricted size of classes I need to make sure all newcomers are wanting to be 'keen beans' too!!
CONTEMPORARY DANCE
Places are possibly available in this class all year round...you must have prior knowledge and experience of either ballet and/or contemporary dance.. If this is you do get in touch!!
About Lou Barrett
Lou has been working professionally in dance for 25 years. Training first at Bretton Hall College for the arts, where she gained a First Degree in dance. Following this she embarked on a year in Japan touring with a jazz company.
On her return she gained a place at the world class London Contemporary Dance School where she gained a diploma in Dance and Choreography.
Originally from Bolton, Lou was slowly making her way south and had her first taste of beautiful Somerset where, at the age of 23 she took the role of dance and drama lecturer at Yeovil College. But after 2 years the urge to choreograph professional work was still there so it was back to London where she also worked part - time for the Pegasus Theatre in Oxford - as a participation officer for drama and dance. It was during this time Lou applied to take a performance to the New Choreography Festival 'Resolutions' at the Place Theatre, London. Following the success of this show Lou was invited bring work again for the next 2 years. By the second year Lou was Head of Dance at Prior Park College, Bath. The 3rd festival show was reviewed successfully in the Guardian and other media outlets which prompted Lou to move back to Somerset and apply to the Arts Council to make her first touring full - length show. Over the next 7 years Lou made 5 touring shows; all supported by the Arts Council. The shows toured rurally, Prague Festival, Edinburgh Festival and theatres up and down the country. In 2012 aged 38 and on tour with the show 'Luna' Lou decided it was time to retire from touring... to focus on her new dream of running her own dance studio. Whilst covering Head of Dance at Richard Huish College, Taunton
Lou spotted a retail unit in Langport that looked PERFECT for dancing. With further and final support from the Arts Council, Lou renovated the building and GingerFred Dance Studio was born. Opening its doors in January 2013. Since then the studio has gone through changes and developments but always as a positive move forward. For the last 8 years Lou has furthered her dance training and is now a teacher of Argentine Tango and Social Dance for couples... The studio has over 150 adult clients dancing each week...it is a place where people grow, get fit, learn, express and make friends.
For all the moments in her career, running GingerFred has been the absolute highlight... Sharing her passion for dance is what she feels she was put on this earth for (oh and also looking after her dogs 🐕😉)
